FAQ

WHEN IS STGCON 2019?

August 2-4, 2019

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I GET THERE?

When arriving, please check-in at the registration desk. (If you didn’t pre-register through the website, you can purchase your entry at the registration desk.) Next, we suggest a quick wander around to see what is available — just take a few minutes to get familiar with the vendor and gaming areas. The registration area will also have all of the scheduled gaming schedules and other helpful information.

WHAT KIND OF GAMING WILL BE AVAILABLE?

As the name of the convention suggests, there will be a plethora of boardgaming! The board, card, and dice games will come in all levels of difficulty and time length. You can expect to see families playing Sorry or pass the pigs, to groups playing casual games like 7 wonders or bananagrams, all the way to intense combat from Sentinels of the Multiverse or Memoir 44, and hardcore gamers playing brain burners like Brass or Caylus. Let’s not forget our wargames, such as Hammer of the Scots or Command and Colors: Ancients! Trust me, there will be something fun and engaging to play for everyone!

SHOULD I BRING MY OWN GAMES TO PLAY?

There will be an available library, with over 800 games, which you can borrow during the con. A list is available HERE. However, if there’s a specific game you want to make sure you play, you are absolutely welcome to bring your own games. In fact, even if you’re new to board game conventions, feel free to add an event to the gaming schedule so others can sign up ahead of time to play with you or just grab a “Players Wanted” sign and sit down. Just keep in mind, like any convention, all attendees are responsible for their own belongings during the convention.

WHAT IF I’M INTERESTED IN A SCHEDULED GAME, BUT DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY?

All scheduled events (other than play to win) should begin with an introduction and rules overview. It’s incredibly rare that everyone at a table will already know how to play a game, so you won’t be alone. This being the case, please try to make it to your scheduled events on time so the teacher can begin explaining the rules. In the open gaming area, the folks running the game library are very willing and able to walk you through the rules, although they do a lot of teaching during the con so their availability might be a bit limited. Finally, there will be “Teachers Wanted” signs available. Feel free to grab one of these and set it on a table with the game (or multiple games) you’re interested in learning. There’s no guarantee that someone will know how to play, but chances are pretty good that someone will be able to help.

CAN I LEAVE THE CONVENTION AND RETURN LATER?

Absolutely! You will be given a badge when you come in and register. This badge is to be worn at all times during the convention, so if you need to go get some food, go home and take a nap, or go pick up the kids from the babysitter and take them back to your spouse after they get off of work, etc…. you’re covered as long as you keep your badge on. It gives you access to the convention for the duration of the day, or the whole weekend, however long you’ve registered for.

I’M BRINGING THE WHOLE FAMILY, WHAT IS THERE FOR THEM TO DO?

If everyone likes playing board games, then you’re in for a fun time! We will have multiple games available that are suitable for ages 3 and up! We are excited to bring new titles for you to share with your family, making family time as fun as possible! No need to leave the kids in the hotel room all day! If they prefer other activities, there are many parks, movie theaters, as well as other family activity centers nearby!

We do ask that no children under 15 be left unsupervised, as disruptive children and their parents will be asked to leave the convention space. If necessary, they will be excluded from the convention. We want everyone to have a great time, so we need to respect the space of others!

WHERE CAN I EAT DURING THE CON?

We will have a concession stand right outside of the gaming hall for your convenience. There are also many other restaurants within a short walk or driving distance, from fast food to nicer sit-down places.

By the way, if you’re a VIP, you get access to unlimited snacks! You can check out our VIP package here.

WILL GAMES BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE OR TRADE?

Our vendors will have booths set up in the vendor area selling a variety of games and accessories throughout the weekend. Definitely try to support them by spending some time (and money) there. In addition, a Flea Market Swap will be available. This is a fun opportunity to bring some of your own games to sell or trade with other gamers, or bring some cash and get some great deals.
